According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 9 a.m. on August 7, the center of the tropical depression was located at approximately 19.8 degrees North latitude and 108.1 degrees East longitude, over the waters southeast of Bach Long Vi Special Zone.
The system was packing sustained winds of 39-49 kilometers per hour (Force 6), with gusts reaching Force 8.
Influenced by strong westerly and southwesterly winds, the tropical depression is forecast to move east and southeast toward Hainan Island, China, over the next 24 hours.
Forecasters warned that the system will bring strong winds, rough seas, thunderstorms, whirlwinds and powerful wind gusts, posing risks to vessels operating in the Gulf of Tonkin.
