Ho Chi Minh City accelerates power projects under Power Plan VIII

The HCMC People’s Committee has directed relevant departments to fast-track energy development projects and attract investment in clean power to ensure a stable electricity supply for businesses and residents  as per the Power Plan VIII.

Standing Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Nguyen Loc Ha, recently signed Document No. 1533/UBND-KT regarding the implementation of power projects to ensure sufficient electricity supply for production, business, and people's lives, in accordance with Prime Minister's Directive No. 01/CT-TTg on the implementation of the adjusted Power Plan VIII.

Accordingly, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has tasked the Department of Industry and Trade with leading the coordination efforts among relevant departments, agencies, and localities to execute energy and power development plans; oversee and accelerate the progress of significant energy projects; and swiftly gather challenges and barriers to provide recommendations to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for resolution.

At the same time, it will inspect and supervise the investment and upgrading of power grid infrastructure to ensure safe and stable operation.

The Department of Industry and Trade is also tasked with reviewing and updating power source and grid projects in the adjusted Power Plan VIII into Ho Chi Minh City planning and related specialized plans. The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee is tasked with expediting the progress of waste-to-energy projects and coordinating the implementation of the Hiep Phuoc LNG power plant project according to the plan.

The Department of Finance is responsible for advising on investment policies for power projects, proposing mechanisms to attract investment in clean and renewable energy projects, and reviewing and allocating capital for energy development programs and projects in accordance with budget balancing capabilities.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment, the Department of Construction, and the Department of Planning and Architecture are assigned to coordinate in reviewing and updating power source and grid projects into land use planning, construction planning, and urban planning; resolving obstacles related to land allocation, planning, and construction procedures when implementing projects.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also requests departments, agencies, localities, and industrial park and high-tech park management boards to coordinate and support investors, especially in compensation and land clearance work, to accelerate the progress of power projects.
