Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across the Mekong Delta between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. before becoming more widespread and intensifying through the afternoon and evening.
In the Southeastern region and Lam Dong Province, rainfall is forecast mainly from early afternoon into the evening.
Rain is expected across more than 80 percent of the region, with most areas receiving light to moderate rainfall. Localized downpours exceeding 50 mm are possible, particularly in An Giang and Ca Mau provinces. Weather authorities warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, strong wind gusts and possible localized flooding.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that the Southern, the Central Highlands and Central regions would continue to experience showers, moderate rain and thunderstorms during the day and night of July 30, with rainfall generally ranging from 20 mm to 40 mm and isolated areas receiving more than 100 mm.
For the Northern region, it is forecast to see scattered showers and thunderstorms, with rainfall of 10–30 mm and isolated totals exceeding 60 mm.
Authorities also warned of flash floods, landslides and ground subsidence along hillsides and streams in Phu Tho, Lao Cai, Quang Ninh, Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Lam Dong.
Showers and thunderstorms are also forecast over the Gulf of Tonkin, waters from Khanh Hoa to Ca Mau, from Ca Mau to An Giang, the Gulf of Thailand and the northern, central and southern parts of the East Sea, with risks of waterspouts, strong gusts and waves exceeding two meters. Strong winds are expected to persist through daytime on July 31 before gradually easing overnight.
