Director of the National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center Hoang Duc Cuong said that the El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO)- neutral will continue maintaining until the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018.
This month, the rainfall in the northern mountainous region will be approximately the average annually.
From October to December, 2017, the rainfall in the northern and central region will be lower at 15-30 percent than average annually.
In October, the rainfall in the Central and south- central region will be higher 10-20 percent than the average annually.
Additionally, the average temperature in the northern and north-central provinces will increase 0.5- 1 degree Celsius compared to the same period annually.
The flooding season in the northern region is expected to end soon. From August to October, floodwater level in the upstream Red, Hoang Long and Thai Binh River is expected to be alert at level 1-2 while the downstream Red and Thai Binh River in Hanoi will be under level 1 alerting, causing flash flood and landslide in the northern mountainous provinces.
This year’s flood season in the central and central highlands region is expected to come soon compared to the same period of previous years.
Because of influence of tropical storms, depressions and cold fronts, in the provinces from Quang Ninh to Ca Mau will cause an increase of water level and big waves of 2-3 meters
The flood tide will appear in the southern coastal provinces at the first days of October, November and December.
