On the morning of August 24, Party Secretary Ha Xuan Thanh of Trung Ha Commune in Thanh Hoa Province reported that heavy rains had triggered a landslide on the cut slope at Km130 of National Highway 217, near Loc Tong Village, during the early hours of the day.
Approximately 50 cubic meters –70 cubic meters of soil and rock spilled onto the road, covering the entire surface for a stretch of about 50 meters and severing traffic flow.
Heavy rain persists in the area, and the cut slope at Km130 remains at risk of further landslides and falling rocks, posing a safety hazard.
To ensure the safety of residents and vehicles, the People's Committee of Trung Ha Commune has issued notices and guidance advising travelers to use alternative routes. Local authorities are coordinating with competent forces to monitor the situation.
If the rain subsides and no further landslides occur on August 24, the commune plans to mobilize machinery and personnel to clear the debris and reopen National Highway 217 as soon as possible.
According to Ha Xuan Thanh, 35 households comprising 160 people have so far been relocated from landslide-prone areas to safety.

The severe weather submerged numerous bridges, low-water crossings, and vital local routes in low-lying sectors, cutting off vital transit links. Authorities are maintaining round-the-clock surveillance of weather patterns and conducting rigorous inspections of vulnerable, landslide-prone zones.
Strictly implementing the "four-on-the-spot" preparedness principle—command, forces, vehicles, and logistics on-site—officials are proactively evacuating residents from high-risk areas as conditions demand. The primary directive remains safeguarding human lives and minimizing property damage amidst the ongoing severe weather.
