HCMC turns sultry again, Hanoi temperatures soar to 38-39 degrees Celsius

Ho Chi Minh City and many Southern localities are experiencing a return of hot weather, with temperatures commonly ranging from 34 to 36 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the Northern region is entering a peak weekend heatwave, with Hanoi hitting 38-39 degrees Celsius in some areas.

Meteorological experts warn that the peak temperatures in many parts of the Northern region will commonly range from 34-37 degrees Celsius, while the Central region will see 35-38 degrees Celsius, with some areas exceeding 38 degrees Celsius.

The Southeast region will experience localized hot weather with temperatures between 34 degrees Celsius and 36 degrees Celsius. Residents, especially outdoor laborers, should ensure adequate hydration and limit prolonged exposure to the intense heat during the afternoon.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, midday and afternoon temperatures in Hanoi over the two weekend days will climb to 38-39 degrees Celsius, with humidity dropping to around 38-44 percent.

The heat will be intense, with virtually no rain. Moving into May 25 and May 26, the intensity of the severe heatwave will subside, with temperatures dropping to around 37 degrees Celsius, though hot weather will still persist.

The weather agency notes that because the hot air mass from the western continent is expanding and peaking over the weekend, it is increasing the sultry feeling across many areas in the Northern region. However, some mountainous areas such as Dien Bien, Lai Chau, and Lao Cai may still see scattered showers and thunderstorms at night.

In the Central region, hot and intensely hot weather will appear in many places with temperatures of 35-38 degrees Celsius, and over 38 degrees Celsius in some areas, concentrated mostly in the western part. According to meteorological experts, the coastal strip from Khanh Hoa to Eastern Lam Dong will be milder, but temperatures will still remain around 33-36 degrees Celsius. Thunderstorms will mainly occur locally in the western mountainous areas during the late afternoon and evening.

The Central Highlands and Southern regions will maintain alternating periods of clouds and sunshine. On the morning of May 23, localized showers occurred in a few places. The eastern part of Ho Chi Minh City may experience isolated rain. However, the dominant weather pattern remains sunny and hot across the Southeast region.

The temperature in central Ho Chi Minh City was 29 degrees Celsius early on the morning of May 23 and could rise to 34-36 degrees Celsius during the midday and afternoon hours. This is also the common temperature range across the Southeast.

Scattered thunderstorms will continue into the late afternoon and evening across Lam Dong Province and the Southern region. However, rainfall will be unevenly distributed, with localized heavy downpours in some areas and virtually no rain in many others.
