The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has approved a project to build two branches of Nguyen Van Cu Bridge to link up to Vo Van Kiet Boulevard in districts 1 and 5.
The 300 meter long branches, aiming to reduce traffic jam in the area especially the Tran Hung Dao-Vo Van Kiet intersection, will be built along Ben Nghe Canal together with alongside drainage system, trees and grass covers.
Total expenditure is estimated to reach VND170 billion (US$7.65 million).
The work is expected to kick off this year and complete by 2017 by the Management Center of Saigon River Tunnel.
Nguyen Van Cu Bridge linking districts 1 and 5 up to 4 and 8 was inaugurated in April, 2009 at a total cost of VND535 billion (US$24.08 million).
