The Chairperson of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council Pham Phuong Thao said at the HCM City People’s Council’s on December 7 discussed measures to tackle high interest rates from the banks, soaring prices of essential goods, to fix the sinkholes in the streets, to reduce violent crime among students and to stop motorbike riders racing along the streets.
Ms. Thao said, “Our Schools, families and local governments have to share responsibility, as they need to care more appropriately the needs of our teenagers.
In addition, she said: “The city lacks many recreation facilities where young people can enjoy sporting games… games that the teenagers can join with their friends in appropriate social pursuits”.
Ms. Thao pointed out one of the causes of violent crime among students is that society has not concentrated on ‘educating moral instruction in the classroom and in the home’. She said, "Schools, families and the whole society must join in educating students about dignity and proper living skills."
Ms. Thao also went on to say, “The city will strengthen the campaign ‘Year of the Youth’ with many practical activities which will encourage young people to participate”.
Deputies have raised concerns about the state of our roads saying that because of sinkholes, some streets have become ‘death traps’ but no agency have taken or accepted responsibility for the accidents due to sinkholes.
Ms. Thao said, “These agencies could pass the buck because their jobs have overlapped”. She also went on to say, “Weak infrastructure of the city, old drainage systems and uncontrollable underwater exploitation have attributed to the appearance of sinkholes in streets”.
In conclusion, it was decided that the People’s Council would supervise investments in the city. In addition, the Council would try to spread investments in various fields, in order to develop the economy of the city.
