HCMC, Nagano Prefecture enhance cooperation

Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong on April 10 has paid a visit to governor of Nagano Prefecture Shuichi Abe as part of his ongoing working trip to Japan.

Addressing the meeting, the HCMC City leader highlighted Nagano’s natural beauty, the people’s hospitality, the development of precision mechanics and the teaching quality of universities in the prefecture.
Mr. Phong highly appreciated Nagano’s strength in manufacturing, supporting industries and agriculture. The HCMC delegation’s visit aimed to seek cooperation opportunities in the fields of agriculture, the high tech industry, vocational training, education and health care.
Mr.Phong hoped businesses of the two sides will have deep discussions about mechanism and ways of cooperation after this visit.
Japan is Ho Chi Minh City’s fourth largest investor. The city has annually accounted for up to 40 percent of all foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in the country. In addition, exchanges of economy and culture between Nagano and Vietnam, the establishment of Nagano – Viet Nam Exchange Association and its activities have made outstanding contribution in strengthening the tie between Ho Chi Minh City and Nagano, he added.
The chairman also hoped HCM City will welcome the support of Nagano Gov. Shuichi Abe in establishing the relationship between HCMC City's district 1 and Matsumoto City.
According to Nagano Shuichi Abe, there is around 2,100 Vietnamese people who are working in Nagano. The prefecture’s export turnover to Vietnam saw an increase in 2017 and is expected to continue gainning a growth in 2018.
He also hoped that Nagano will contribute to the development of Vietnamese agricultural industry, welcome more Vietnamese postgraduates coming to Japan to study, as well as receive the HCM city’s support in importing and exporting of agricultural products between the two sides.
The delegation also paid a visit to Chairman of the Nagano Prefecture Council Kiyoshi Suzuki and had a working session with the Global Aqua Innovation Center of the Shinshu University.
Addressing the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong said that Shinshu University and Nagano Prefecture will help HCMC seek environmental protection solutions, deploy sustainable water resources and implement cooperation programs brining benefits to the two sides.
