Planning for irrigational works against flooding in low-lying area of Ho Chi Minh City on an area of 968,500 hectares of land with 13 tidal control sluice and dike systems were reported at the working.
However, because the investment capital is very large, the first phase strategy from 2015 to 2020 has focused on the city center districts.
Total capital demand for drainage renovation projects in the medium term from 2016 to 2020 is expected at VND 11,056 billion.
Among 27 transition projects, 19 projects were completed and put into usage, contributing to reducing flooding for district 5 and 9, Tan Phu, Binh Thanh, Thu Duc, Hoc Mon and Cu Chi districts, with a total investment of VND 1,843 billion.
Speaking at the working, chairwoman Nguyen Thi Le emphasized that the great efforts of the city authority along with consultation of the relevant departments and districts has created changes.
However, the implementation progress of projects is still slow, including A41 and Tan Tru channel projects were approved by the HCMC People's Council since 2016 which have not yet adopted.
As this reason, the relevant units need to actively re-evaluate effectiveness of projects, review and update flooded roads in the forthcoming time. Besides that, the Management Board of Traffic Infrastructure Investment and Construction has to actively coordinate with departments and branches to accelerate the project's progress, survey and focus on settling heavy flooded spots this year.
