The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), on February 11, issued a statement that the low-pressure area in the southern East Sea had intensified into a tropical depression, with some changes from earlier forecasts.

Instead of moving toward the waters around Con Dao Island, the tropical depression is now expected to move toward the South Central Coast waters of Vietnam before being affected by a cold air mass on February 14.

As a result, the Spratly Islands and the waters off the South Central Coast are expected to experience severe weather with winds of level 5-6 (30-49 km/h), gusting up to level 8 (62-74 km/h).

Meanwhile, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting also issued a report on this weather system this afternoon, confirming it as a low-pressure area.

At 1 p.m., the low-pressure area was located at approximately 9.5-10.5 degrees North latitude and 112.5-113.5 degrees East longitude. It is forecast to slowly move west-northwest over the next 24 hours and has the potential to strengthen into a tropical depression.

Due to the influence of the low-pressure trough connected to the low-pressure area, the central and southern parts of the East Sea (including the waters around the Spratly Islands) and the waters from Binh Dinh to Ninh Thuan will experience rain and thunderstorms, with the possibility of tornadoes and strong winds of level 6-7.

From the night of February 11 to February 12, the northeastern part of the northern East Sea is expected to experience strong northeast winds of level 5, occasionally reaching level 6, with gusts up to level 7-8; waves could reach heights of 2-4 meters. All ships operating in these areas are at risk of being affected by tornadoes, strong gusts, and large waves.

Currently, disturbances from this low-pressure area are causing rain in Lam Dong and some areas of Dong Nai, Binh Duong, and Binh Phuoc.
