Currently, water flow at the main monitoring stations of Mekong River and upstream of the Cuu (Nine Dragon) River is lower than average level of many years, dropping to lowest record so far, reported the Central Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center yesterday.
Particularly, water level is measured at 3,6 meters at Pakse Station in Laos, 2, 7 meters at Strung Treng Station and 5, 1 meters at Kratie Station in Cambodia, 1, 49 meters at Tan Chau Station in Dong Thap province, and 1,28 meters Chau Doc Station in An Giang province lower than average level of previous years.
Head-stream water levels on Nine Dragon River is forecast to start rising rapidly at the end of September and October. However, crest predictions for the 2015 flood will be alerted at level 1 on rivers of Nine Dragon.
Rising tide will occur earlier compared to the same period of dry weather in 2014- 2015 because of the influence of salt penetration.
Moreover, the rainfall in the Mekong River valley is predicted to be 15- 30 percents lower than average levels from October to December because of the influence of the weather phenomenon El Nino.
Thus, this year’s rainy season is forecast to end prematurely compared to the same period last years.
