As Tet the holiday approaches, people need to purchase essential items for that festival. However, the quality of goods seems to be in doubt, as relevant agencies have been accused of a lack of enforment of regulations and a practiced a ‘lax behavior’. Customers are losing out, as they are unaware that they are buying counterfeit goods.
The regulation to place counterfeit CR safety guarantee stamps took effect on September 15. At supermarkets and home appliance centers, many products have been found as having no CR stamps, although stamps are required for six types of products.
In addition, many merchants at the Binh Tay wholesale market in district 6 are illegally sticking CR stamps on toys to cope with market managers.
Vina Technology Science Development Corporation’s General Manager Nguyen Viet Hong said, “Photocopy stamps don’t help customers to distinguish genuine and counterfeit items”. He said, “It appears that many people are buying counterfeit goods, without knowing it”.
To conclude, customers are being misled with sub-standard goods as the festival season is coming. The question remains should agencies help customers purchase high quality goods by enforcing the relevant regulations by placing CR stamps on illegal items.
