Cho Lon Fair 2010 kicked off at the Phu Tho Stadium, District 11 on December 30, attracting over 188 businesses with 369 stalls. The businesses are from provinces and cities nationwide, such as HCM City, Hanoi, Lam Dong, Long An and Dong Nai.
Products such as leather shoes, garments, handcrafts, interior decorations, and food, to name a few, are being showcased at the fair.
According to Truong Tu Muoi, director of the Cho Lon Economic Development Centre, the event aims to report economic achievements during 2010 and acknowledge successful businesses. Ms Muoi said businesses have tried to maintain production, even through difficult economic circumstances.
The HCMC Department of Industry and Trade and the Chinese Mission in HCMC, attracting the participation of various Chinese enterprises, jointly held the event.
This event was held so that it would assist the Hoa (ethnic Chinese) community to maintain and run their businesses and widen the local market, by way of introducing high-quality products to consumers. This event will also act as a bridge between foreign and domestic enterprises, with other Chinese communities in Singapore and Malaysia.
A highlight of this year’s fair is a consultancy and information office, which is provided free by the organizers. From this consultancy office, information is given to those that need help regarding property rights, trademarks, identifying fake products, and finding local business partners.
A job festival will be held on January 3 to help young Chinese-speaking people and students from universities find jobs. There will be 31 businesses recruiting for 4,000 jobs, in various sectors, such as accountancy, finance, sales and the IT industry.
Last year’s event saw the display of products from 168 enterprises, of which 40% participated in the event for the first time, while 80% introduced their new products. Attentively, 60% of visitors yearly attend the event. The event will last until January 3.
