Vo Thi My Tien ranks 30th in women’s 1,500m freestyle swimming

On the second day of the 2023 World Aquatic Championships, Vo Thi My Tien, the only female swimmer representing Vietnam, stood in 30th place after competing in the women’s 1,500m freestyle, which took place in Japan on July 24.

On the day of the competition, My Tien finished in 8th place with a time of 17 minutes, 25 seconds, and 13 milliseconds. The top qualifier in this round was the swimmer from Singapore Ching Hwee Gan, with 16 minutes, 20 seconds, and 88 milliseconds.

It's worth mentioning that at last year's SEA Games 31, My Tien won the silver medal in the women's 1,500m freestyle with a time of 16 minutes, 55 seconds, and 88 milliseconds. While Ching Hwee Gan set a SEA Games record with a time of 16 minutes, 36 seconds, and 73 milliseconds, winning the gold medal. However, the women's 1,500m freestyle event was not held at the swimming competition of SEA Games 32.

As for the overall ranking in the 1,500m freestyle category at the 2023 World Aquatic Championships, Vo Thi My Tien was in 30th place, while Ching Hwee Gan finished in 14th place. Unfortunately, neither of them qualified for the finals.

On the same day, swimmer Hoang Quy Phuoc competed in the men’s 200m freestyle and achieved a time of 1 minute, 53 seconds, and 67 milliseconds, securing 9th place in the qualifying round. However, he did not qualify for the semifinals. Overall, Quy Phuoc ranks 46th.

The swimming competitions will continue until July 30, and the Vietnamese swimming athletes will compete in other categories.

Winners of the swimming competitions at the 2023 World Aquatic Championships which are being held in Fukuoka, Japan will have an opportunity to take part in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
