VN joins Asian Winter Games for first time

Six Vietnamese athletes including Nguyen Van An, Nguyen Vo Huu Vinh, Nguyen Duc Manh, Pham Tien Dat, Nguyen Thai Binh and Trinh Dinh Thoi will participate in the eighth Asian Winter Games 2017 in Japan’s Sapporo city from February 19- 27, reported Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Culture and Sports Department Mai Ba Hung.

Accordingly, the Vietnamese athletes will compete in three categories of alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and snowboarding.

The 2017 Asian Winter Games attracts many athletes from 30 Asian countries and territories who will compete in 11 categories of alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, figure skating, speed skating, hockey, curling, ski jumping, freestyle skiing, biathlon and short track speed skating.

For good preparation for the regional sport event, the Vietnamese athletes have spent several training months on sand dunes in Mui Ne, Binh Thuan province.

This is the first time that Vietnamese sports delegation attends in the Asian Winter Games.
