Vietnam's Hang wins Asian Gold in 800m

Truong Thanh Hang clinched Vietnam’s only gold medal to win the 800m race in the Asian Athletics Championships Sunday in Japan’s Kobe.

Truong Thanh Hang clinched Vietnam’s only gold medal to win the 800m race in the Asian Athletics Championships Sunday in Japan’s Kobe.

The Ho Chi Minh City woman finished her competition in 2:01.41. Margarita Matsko of Kazakhstan came second in 2:02:46, and Indian woman Tintu Luka was third with 2:02:55.

Hang had earlier earned a silver medal in the women’s 1,500m race.

Vietnam’s athletics team won three medals altogether in Kobe. The third came from Nguyen Thi Phuong, who secured a bronze from the women’s 3000m steeple chase.

The Asian Athletics Championships wrapped up Sunday. Hosts Japan came first with 11 golds, 10 silvers and 11 bronzes. Powerhouse China were second after taking 10 golds, 12 silvers and five bronzes.
