Vietnamese Badminton Players to Join YGOBC 2008

Viet Nam sent its two most outstanding players, Nguyen Tien Minh and Le Ngoc Nguyen Nhung to compete in Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles categories in the 2008 Yonex German Open Badminton Championships (YGOBC).

Nguyen Tien Minh dropped to the rank of #42 in the Badminton World Ranking due to an unlucky performance at the Robot Thomas Cup held in Military Zone 7 Stadium of Ho Chi Minh City.

He was very focused on the YGOBC as would offer an opportunity to earn him some points that would help to boost his ranking and also offer a ticket of entry to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

 

Pplayer Minh, received the honor of directly entering the main rounds while his female teammate, Nhung had to begin the tournament in the qualification rounds.

 

Nguyen Tien Minh will meet his old German rival, Roman Spitko in Round 1 on February 27. Minh defeated Spitko with a score of 21-6 and 21-9 in the 2007 Yonex OCBC US Open Grand Prix.

In Round 2 of this tournament, Minh will meet the 17th seeded player in the world, who is also the 3rd seed of the championship, Japanese player - Shoji Sato.

 

Meanwhile Nhung, seeded 90th in the world will meet the French badminton player Weny Rahmawati in her first match. In the subsequent, if lucky enough to progress in the tournament, she will be able to compete against Dutch Rachel Van Cutsen or Irish Chloe Magee. 

 

The 2008 YGOBC has attracted over 360 players from 43 countries to compete in five categories: Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men Doubles, Women Doubles and Mixed Doubles from February 26 to March 2. 

 

Among the competitors, are some competitors of the 2008 Thomas & Uber Cup, including Korean - Park Sung Hwan; Singaporeans - Lee Yen Hui Kandrick and Roanld Susilo; and Malaysian - Tsueng Seng Lee.
