Vietnam’s national football squad left without their number 1 goalkeeper for Lebanon yesterday to play their second match against their Lebanese rivals in the qualifying round of the 2011 Asian Cup.
Goalkeeper Duong Hong Son would not be playing with his team at the Beirut Municipal Stadium in Lebanon on January 6 because he lost his passport.
Coach Henrique Calisto will use Tran Duc Cuong as goalkeeper and called Bui Quang Huy from the Hai Phong Cement club goalie to play as reserve.
Before leaving Vietnam, Calisto said he was hopeful for a win against the team coached by Emile Rustom. Vietnam beat Lebanon 3-1 in the first-leg match at the My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi on January 14, 2009.
Lebanonese team have already lost their chance to play at the 2011 Asian Cup with bottom spot in D Group and zero points.
Vietnamese team are third place in group D, which is led by Syria (10 points) who have sealed their qualification followed by China (6 points).
Vietnam still has a chance of qualifying if China loses to Syria, but Vietnam must win its two remaining matches.
