The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has said that a hot continental low pressure, which developed in the west and is extending to the east, would cause temperatures in north and north-central provinces to climb to above 33 degrees Celsius, and to above 35 degrees Celsius in the north-west mountainous region this weekend.
It has also said that a cold front would move to the north in the next few days but would only cause temperatures to fall in the night because of its low intensity.
The cold front would possibly push the hot low pressure in the north to north-central provinces and cast high temperatures over the region this weekend, the center said.
In related news, the Ho Chi Minh City’s Steering Board for Storm and Flood Prevention on February 25 ordered the administrations of districts 12, Go Vap, Thu Duc, and Binh Thanh to strengthen important dike sections to face upcoming high tides from February 28 to March 3.
The Southern Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting said the high tide would exceed the second alarm level with water levels at the Phu An Post in Saigon reaching 1.42 meters.
Water levels are expected to rise between 4am-7 am and from 4pm-8pm everyday. The high-tide might combine with the monsoon to push water levels higher than forecast, it said.
