A ceremony recognizing Don Ca Tai Tu Nam Bo as an “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity” by UNESCO was held at the Reunification Palace on February 11.
It contributes to Vietnamese patriotism and preserves traditional art form, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung at the ceremony.
Mr. Dung asks the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and citizens and artists to cooperate in the national action program to preserve and develop the style.
Katherine Muller-Marin, UNESCO Representative in Vietnam, presented the certificate to 21 provinces and cities that are home to Don Ca Tai Tu Nam Bo and to representatives of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Vietnam currently has 2,258 Don Ca Tai Tu Clubs with 14,000 members in 21 provinces and cities nationwide, including 97 clubs in HCMC featuring 1,133 members.
Chairman of Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan, Municipal Party Committee Secretary Le Thanh Hai, Chairman of the People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan, other leaders of Party and State, and artists of 21 provinces and cities also attended the ceremony.
