Two earthquakes consecutively hit Dien Bien

Two earthquakes consecutively occurred in the northern mountainous province of Dien Bien this early morning.

The first quake measuring at 3.9 on the Richter scale occurred in Dien Bien Dong district at 3:14 AM. It was centered at 21,409 degrees north latitude and 103, 309 degrees east longitude with its epicenter location at ten kilometers deep underground.

The second quake measuring at 4.3 on the Richter scale shook the Muong Ang district at 6:21 AM with its epicenter location at ten kilometers deep underground.

The earthquake took place for about three- four seconds. 

The local people quickly ran out their house because shaking of houses and heavy furniture caused by the earthquake. 

Currently, the authorities of Dien Bien province and the Muong Ang district have not reported about economic damages caused by the earthquakes. 

Last year, seven earthquakes measuring at 2.1- 3.9 on the Richter scale hit districts of Dien Bien, Muong Cha, Dien Bien Dong, Tuan Giao, Tua Chua and Muong Lay Town.

In recent 100 years, the province has suffered three strong earthquakes with 5.3- 6.9 on the Richter scale.
