Since early morning, people from Ha Tinh and the neighboring province of Nghe An had been streaming to the Vuc Rao lagoon to catch fish.
The Dong Hoa (Hoa Field) fishing festival is an original traditional culture of locals, organized annually on a Sunday after crop harvest to encourage agricultural, rural development and fishery expansion and tighten the solidarity in local residential community.
The Vuc Rao lagoon locates in the foot of Hong Linh Mountain, having the total length of about two kilometers and area of 30 hectares. The lagoon is home to many kinds of fresh water fish.
Before the festival, all fishing activities in the lagoon are banned to create conditions for fish to live and develop.
Those catching big fish are belived to have lot of good luck and bumper crop in the whole year. The organization board will reward the person catching the biggest fish which will be worshiped to the tutelary god of the village.
