According to Le Tien Truong, deputy chairman of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas) and deputy director general of Vietnam National Textile and Garment Corporation, the textile and garment sector has made great progress with an average growth rate of 22 percent this year.

The country has expanded its export market and attracted many foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in the textiles and garments sector.
In 2007-2012, Vietnam’s textile and garment sector added 485 FDI projects valued at US$2 billion.
Textile and garment exports reached $9.24 billion in the first seven months of this year, presenting a year-on-year increase of 7.6 percent and accounting for 16 percent of the country's total export turnover.
Vietnam is ranked at second place in export of textiles and apparel to the US market, and at third place to Japan and fifth to the EU market.
