Severer weather forecast in Vietnam

Vietnam experiences heavy rains, storms, thunderstorms, tornadoes, tropical low pressure systems and flood tides, caused both physical and human damage due to climate change in the recent years, said the Chairman of People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Le Hoang Quan on April 10.

Vietnam lost VND 28,000 billion, equivalent to one percent of GDP due to natural disasters in 2013.

Ho Chi Minh City has also faced a number of storms, tropical low pressure system during ten year. Thus, city requested relevant agencies, local authorities to raise their responsibility for storm and flood preparation.

More than eighteen storms, tropical low pressure system swept through the East Sea in 2013. Two storms among them directly affected Ho Chi Minh City caused a total of 13 people were reported to be dead, 489 houses were unroofed and five schools collapsed due to storms.

City lost over VND 208, 7 billion for rebuilding dyke system along the rivers.
