People's Artist Vien Chau awarded third class labor medal

Department of HCMC Culture, Sports and Tourism awarded the third class labor medal to People's Artist Huynh Tri Ba on October 15 for his great contributions in preserving and promoting the art of Don Ca Tai Tu's music and songs in southern Vietnam as well as cultural identity of the country.

Audiences often call him with the stage names as  Vien Chau and  Bay Ba. He was born in 21st October, 1924 in Tra Vinh province, is a dan tranh's  musician and notable cai luong composer in Vietnam. Vien Chau is considered as father of vong co, songs performed in the cai luong opera style.

In his career, he wrote more than 50 Cai Luong operas and over 2,000 immortal vong co pieces such as Bong O Moi (O Moi flower), Chuyen tinh Han Mac Tu ( Han Mac Tu’s love story), Chuyen tinh Lan va Diep (Lan and Diep’s love story), Sau buc man nhung (Behind the stage), Tinh anh ban chieu (Love of a sedge mat seller), Xuan dat khach ( Welcoming new year in foreign land), Luong Son Ba- Chuc Anh Dai and others.
