The handover of the area, belonging to Division 370 under the Air Defense and Air Force Service and Lung Lo Construction Corporation, aims to serve socioeconomic development, urban planning and expansion of Truong Chinh street.
According to the Defense Ministry, after discussing and reviewing relevant regulations, the ministry and the city have agreed with measuring and setting up landmarks in the area reclaimed by clearing 50 kiosks and three filling stations in Truong Chinh street, Ward 15, Tan Binh district.
These kiosks selling ornamental fish and plant and filling stations located in defense land adjacent to Tan Son Nhat Airport.
Stating at the handover ceremony, deputy chief of staff of the People's Army of Vietnam Nguyen Phuong Nam said that the ministry transfered the area to the HCMC People’s Committee to develop traffic infrastructure, in the hope of reducing traffic jam for Tan Son Nhat Airport.
He proposed the HCMC People’s Committee to ask authorized agencies and Tan Binh district to closely work with the Air Defense and Air Force Service, Lung Lo Construction Corporation and agencies under the Defense Ministry to implement procedures to change land use purpose of the area in line with the law.
The Central Military Commission’s point of view is supporting and creating conditions for HCMC’s socioeconomic development in association with defense and security.
The commission has agreed with the HCMC Party Committee and People’s Committee to require the ministry’s units stationed in the city to work with HCMC’s authorized agencies to inspect and tackle land disputes and encroachments in the upcoming time.
The Ministry of Defense and the standing board of the Central Military Commission has determined to require the ministry’s agencies to abide by regulations; intensify inspection over defense land use; closely work with local and central agencies to tighten defense land management, improve planning quality and defense land use plans and ensure sufficient land fund for defense missions, Mr. Nam stressed.
About using defense land for economic activities in Tan Son Nhat Airport, the standing board agreed with the policy of continuing implementation of measures which have been approved by the ministry in accordance with law, plans and HCMC regulations.
The ministry is willing to hand over defense land to the Ministry of Transport to implement traffic projects and flood control reservoirs for Tan Son Nhat Airport.
Previously, the city had sent a document proposing the Ministry of Defense to deliver land to build a steel flyover at Nguyen Thai Son-Nguyen Kiem intersection, Go Vap district to reduce traffic jam for Tan Son Nhat Airport area.
The required area comprises 1,800 square meters under the management of Military Hospital 175, 17.4 square meters of Bomb Disposal Company under Corporation 319, 122.9 square meters under the Border Guard High Command.
