On March 9, Le Hoang Quan, chairman of the city People’s Committee, inspected some of the works that had been progressing slower than expected, and ordered contractors to speed up progress. The chairman said construction should ideally be completed ahead of major holidays this year.

In related news, HCMC’s municipal committee approved a project to build a 1,000-unit apartment building in District 2’s Cat Lai Ward, which would serve as a resettlement area for displaced residents unable to be moved into the Thu Thiem New Residential Area.

The Management Board for Investment and Construction of the Thu Thiem New Urban Area has been tasked with overseeing construction investment procedures, will monitor the project, and be responsible for site clearance.

There are around 2,000 households in the area who don’t meet requirements for resettlement.

Earlier, the city’s municipal committee agreed to let the District 2 People’s Committee use 1,000 apartments of the 6.4-hectare resettlement area Thanh My Loi, to resettle such residents.
