Japan’s Aichi prefecture wants to participate in the project to build the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh highway in the form of Public-Private Partnership (PPP), said the prefecture’s governor Hideaki Ohmura.
The governor made the request at a meeting with Chairman of HCMC People’s committee Nguyen Thanh Phong on September 13.
He added that the prefecture hopes to turn the project into a new symbol of the friendship between Japan and Vietnam.
Aichi authorities also want to further promote economic, investment and tourism cooperation and cultural exchange with HCMC, Governor Ohmura said, calling for the Vietnamese southern hub’s support in the organization of a Vietnam Festival in Nagoya city next year.
For his part, Phong appreciated the signing of a letter of intention between the city and the Japanese side on the organization of the Vietnam Festival in Nagoya and pledged support for the activity.
The official said HCMC is ready to work with Aichi to promote bilateral ties through exchanging delegations, sharing development experience and encouraging people-to-people exchange, thus bringing practical benefits to both sides and contributing to the relations between Vietnam and Japan.
He suggested that the two sides consider signing cooperation deals in manufacturing-processing industry and hi-tech agriculture, which are the strength of Aichi.
As of August 2019, 43 firms from Aichi had invested US$37 million in Ho Chi Minh City. Meanwhile, around 32,000 Vietnamese are living and working in Aichi.
