Heavy rain, high tide floods several streets in HCMC

On Tuesday afternoon, heavy rainfall and a surging high tide submerged several streets in Ho Chi Minh City and sent traffic into utter chaos in many districts.

A number of streets were inundated under 30-50cm of floodwater, such as Hoa Binh, Khuong Viet, Ton That Hiep and Lang Binh Thang in District 11; An Duong Vuong in District 8; Vo Van Kiet and many alleys on Nguyen Van Luong Street in District 6; An Binh in District 5 and Ky Con in District 1.

The flooding disrupted traffic, with a lot of motorbikes breaking down in Ung Van Khiem, Ngo Tat To and Highway 13 in Binh Thanh District; Huynh Tan Phat in District 7; Kha Van Can in Thu Duc and Kinh Duong Vuong in Binh Tan District.
 
Some areas that had never been flooded earlier were also submerged like Nguyen Chi Thanh and Ngo Quyen Streets in District 5. The area in front of Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital was badly flooded and saw chaotic traffic congestion.

According to the Southern Regional Hydro Meteorological Center, the high tide level measured 1.57m at Phu An Station on the Saigon River on Tuesday. In the next few days, the tide waters are forecast to exceed 1.59m-record levels of 2011.
