Huynh Van Thang, deputy director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Da Nang City, said this was the heaviest rain in several months in the City as well as in other central provinces.

The rain has helped overcome severe water shortage with water now rising in rivers, springs and ponds, which had almost depleted due to the prolonged drought.

Thousands of hectares of summer-autumn rice and vegetables which were about to wither have been saved.

The heavy rain caused power blackout which disrupted operations at Da Nang International Airport for 30 minutes.

In related news, Ho Chi Minh City saw thick fog from early morning until near noon on July 9, which reduced visibility to less than one kilometer in several parts of the City.

Meteorologist Le Thi Xuan Lan said the fog was caused by high humidity after the heavy rain the previous day.
