The vessel developed a large hole and sprung leaks in two places but there were no casualties as Captain Nguyen Dinh Duc managed to bring it safely ashore.

By then other boats at Ben Nghe Port also arrived to rescue the 79 passengers and five sailors aboard the hydrofoil.

Tran Quoc Khanh, director of Dong Song Xanh Company which owns Greenlines, said since the hydrofoil has eight separate sections, leaks in two of them did not affect the others.

The accident reportedly happened when a motorboat crossed the vessel’s path and the captain, in trying to evade, hit the buoy.

Tan Dai Minh Rescue Company is repairing the damaged vessel.

On the same day, the department of fire and police in Ho Chi Minh City also attended the scene to help Greenlines hydrofoil.

Greenlines runs hydrofoil services between HCMC and Vung Tau around 120 km to the southeast.
