HCMC strengthens oversight of temporary parks on vacant land

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has issued a directive to relevant departments and agencies on maintaining environmental hygiene, urban aesthetics and security at vacant land areas that have been upgraded into temporary parks.

According to the department, inspections indicate that maintenance at some sites has fallen short, with damaged landscaping, substandard hygiene and encroachment onto nearby sidewalks.

The Department of Construction has requested joint efforts from site managers, sponsors and local authorities to keep the parks in good condition.

Sponsors are urged to continue supporting park maintenance, including the care of greenery, ornamental plants, and landscaping, in coordination with managing units. In cases of exiting support, sponsors should coordinate in advance to ensure continuity and a well-managed handover.

Ward-level People’s Committees where these parks are located are tasked with conducting inspections and working closely with relevant units to ensure public security, urban order, and environmental sanitation both within the parks and in surrounding areas. They are also responsible for reminding, handling, or proposing action against violations such as encroachment and littering.
