The roads to be opened include three lanes of Rung Sac Road in Can Gio District, a section of the North-South Highway from HCMC to Dong Nai Province, and a 2.2-kilometer stretch linking Ba Chiem Bridge and Hiep Phuoc Industrial Zone in Nha Be District.

The broadening and upgrade of Nam Ki Khoi Nghia-Nguyen Van Troi Street will also be completed before Tet.

The Saigon Premier Container Terminal (SPCT) and the second phase of the Thu Thiem Bridge linking Districts 2 and Binh Thanh will be inaugurated.

In addition, the city will break ground for the Nha Be-Can Gio water supply project, Rach Tra Bridge in Cu Chi District, and three roads in the new Thu Thiem urban area in District 2.

Some other schemes, like construction of social housing, dormitories, and houses for low-income people, will also be launched before Tet.

Speaking at a meeting January 13, city People’s Committee chairman Le Hoang Quan said city authorities are keen to inaugurate all these works because they would improve transportation and contribute to socioeconomic development.

He ordered relevant departments and districts to ensure their timely completion and tidy up later to ensure the city looks clean during the New Year.

The Secretariat of the Party Central Committee has approved naming the East-West Highway after Vo Van Kiet -- name of  the late prime minister -- he said.
