Ho Chi Minh City authorities held a ceremony on April 4 releasing 450,000 fish into Tau Hu-Ben Nghe canal.

The canal is currently recovering from detrimental levels of pollution.
Deputy Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem, leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, local government officials, and hundreds of local residents attended the event.
Fish released into the canal include carp, tilapia, catfish and anaba.
Thanks to continuous efforts in dredging, cleaning and other measures to eliminate contamination, two canals Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe and Tau Hu-Ben Nghe have gradually recovered and are once again home to many types of fish, said Nguyen Phuoc Trung, director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in HCMC.
The event is a part of annual activities to welcome Viet Nam Fisheries Traditional Day on April 1, International Day for Biological Diversity on May 22, and World Environment Day on June 5.
Ho Chi Minh City authorities also released 200,000 fish into the Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe and Tau Hu-Ben Nghe canals in 2013.
