Since the beginning of the year, Ho Chi Minh City has had no traffic gridlock lasting over 30 minutes; however, there has been 18 traffic jams because of fires, traffic accidents, flooding, barriers to repair streets, said a representative from the Department of Transport at a press conference yesterday.
Currently, the city has 24 “hot spots” which are in risk of traffic congestion including streets D400 and Nguyen Duy Trinh in district 9, the street No.2 in Binh Tan District and crossroad An Phu in district 2.
At the press conference, many issues including inundated streets, bus in poor repairs and road traffic safety were raised, director of the municipal Department of Transport Bui Xuan Cuong said that the city administration has conceived plans yet due to shortage of funding, they have not been carried out.
To resolve traffic gridlock, the Department will liaise with related agencies to have measures as well as promote construction progress to minimize traffic jams and inundation that have plagued Ho Chi Minh City and its residents in recent years..
