HCMC celebrates International Women’s Day

Vietnam Women’s Union of Ho Chi Minh City organized a ceremony on March 4, to celebrate the 101 anniversary of International Women’s Day and the 1,971 anniversary of the Trung Sisters (Hai Ba Trung) uprising.

Dinh Thi Bach Mai, chairwoman of the Vietnam Women’s Union of HCMC, spoke of the patriotic solidarity and creativity of Vietnamese women in the struggle against foreign invaders to achieve national liberation. She said, the modern woman of the city today had accomplished many meaningful projects and set examples of success, worthy of emulating, especially in the field of business.

The Vietnam Women’s Union of HCMC was honoured with the Emulation Flag from the Central Vietnam Women’s Union for 2010.

On behalf of the city Party Standing Committee, Deputy Secretary Nguyen Van Dua praised the achievements of women in the city.

He hoped that the Vietnam Women’s Union of HCMC will do a good job of motivating women to participate in the elections of the National Assembly and Peoples Council at all levels. He also asked the Vietnam Women’s Union of HCMC to particularly care for poor and needy women.

Vietnam associates International Women’s Day with the Trung Sisters (Hai Ba Trung) uprising and sees it as an opportunity for Vietnamese women to uphold their traditional motto of “Heroism, courage, faithfulness and diligence”.

The Vietnam Women’s Union of HCMC also used this occasion to establish the Women’s Club on Knowledge with 28 members.
