Government orders completion of HCMC tidal flood control project by 2026

Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc instructed Ho Chi Minh City authorities and relevant agencies to complete the city’s major tidal flood control project for operation in 2026, in line with directions from the country’s top leaders.

The Government Office on June 24 issued Notice No. 323/TB-VPCP, conveying the conclusions of Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc following a meeting with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on resolving obstacles related to the Ho Chi Minh City tidal flood control project, which incorporates climate change considerations (Phase 1).

According to the notice, the Standing Deputy Prime Minister requested the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and relevant agencies and units to focus on fully addressing outstanding issues and urgently complete the remaining components so that the project can be put into operation and use in 2026, in accordance with directives from General Secretary and State President To Lam and the Prime Minister.

The Standing Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to decide on and direct negotiations and agreements with the investor to completely resolve outstanding issues in compliance with the law, ensuring project progress and efficiency while strictly preventing losses, waste, misconduct, or corruption.

The investor is required to proactively coordinate with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and relevant authorities to agree on solutions for unresolved matters, ensuring the project is completed according to the committed schedule.

The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and the investor will be held responsible if the project is not completed within the deadline set by the General Secretary, State President and the Prime Minister.
