Vietnam's national team lost to the Philippines 0-1 in the second match of the ASEAN Football Federation Suzuki Cup at Rajamangala Stadium in Thailand yesterday.
Speaking after the match, Coach Hung said, “This is the worst match Vietnam has played since I was appointed head coach. We deserved to lose this game.”
Now the chances for Vietnam to go further are dim as Thailand has proved to be the strongest team after two wins against the Philippines and Myanmar.
In related news, two football teams of the tainted tycoon Nguyen Duc Kien officially announced their withdrawal from the V-League and First Division Tournament 2013, casting gloom in the football arena in Vietnam.
Dozens of football players will now have to either find a new team or become redundant.
After a long wait, players of the Hanoi football club and the Hanoi Youth Club have finally learnt their fate. Managers of the two teams have decided not to register for the V-League 2013 for Hanoi Club and the First Division Tournament for the Hanoi Youth Club.
This means that all players as well as members of the coaching board of the two football clubs will have to find work with a new football team. This was anticipated because after Kien was arrested, few people believed that his two football clubs could ‘survive’ the next season.
The two clubs have suggested two solutions for their members. First, the players whose contracts are worth big sums of money will be ‘hired out’.
Second, the contracts with other players and members of the coaching board will be released. Those whose contracts are still valid will pay some money to the clubs to be able to leave.
“The team’s viewpoint is not to cause difficulty for members who leave, to find another club", Hanoi football club’s executive director Le Xuan Thong said.
He also said that financial problem is the main reason for the executive board to make the above tough decisions. Since Kien was arrested, the teams still paid salary to players and coaches. However, they cannot afford playing in the V-League and the First Division Tournament.
Most players are under contracts. The biggest problem for them is to quickly find a new team and settle compensation with the old clubs.
