Attending the inauguration ceremony were HCMC Party Chief Nguyen Thien Nhan, People's Committee Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong, People’s Council Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Le and other municipal leaders.
The HCMC Press Center performs functions of supplying services related to press activities, connecting all level leaders of the city and authorized agencies in order to quickly and accurately supply press agencies with information about the city’s operations in many fields.
The center also closely works with bodies of the city Party Committee and Government to help press agencies quickly inform of topics of social interest.

At the ceremony, director of the HCMC Department of Information and Communications Duong Anh Duc gave the decision appointing his deputy Mr. Tu Luong to the center's director.
Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Hoang Vinh Bao said that the center’s establishment showed HCMC’s special care to nearly 200 central and local press agencies and nearly 2,000 journalists in the city. More importantly, the city has showed its assistance to reporters’ official information access to city and agency leaders.
