An event will be hosted to appreciate and encourage the diverse acts of volunteers whose spirits are keys to building strong communities for the International Volunteer Day (December 5).
The organizers set three objectives for their event on the occasion of International Volunteer Day in Ho Chi Minh City : to honor all types of volunteerism; to inspire volunteerism among a broader population; and to facilitate the exchange of ideas and experiences among volunteer host organizations.
At the event, participants will have opportunity to talk with volunteers and learn about not-for-profit organizations that involve volunteers. People can engage in fun activities that demonstrate the diversity of people and the wide range of works that volunteers support in our communities.
“The event provides an opportunity to recognize and thank the volunteers that worked so hard over the past year to help us achieve our mission,” said Mr. Pham Truong Son, Community Liaison at the LIN Center for Community Development.
The event will take place at the International School Saigon Pearl from 8:30 am to 11:30 am at 92 Nguyen Huu Canh Street, Ward 22, Binh Thanh District, in Ho Chi Minh City.
The organizers are Blue Dreams Volunteer Group, DRD Volunteer Club, Habitat for Humanity Vietnam, Health Volunteers Organization, IVC (International Volunteer Club), LIN Center for Community Development, SIFE Economic University HCMC, Smile Group, Sunshine Volunteer Group, Volunteers for Peace Vietnam and the HCMC Women’s Charity Association.
The International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development (IVD) was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 17 December 1985. Since then, governments, the UN system and civil society organizations have successfully joined volunteers around the world to celebrate the Day on 5 December. International Volunteer Day is a day for volunteers from all walks of life working in communities around the globe. IVD offers an opportunity for volunteer organizations and individual volunteers to make visible their contributions - at local, national and international levels - to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. |
