Ho Chi Minh City Party Secretary Le Thanh Hai and leaders from the People’s Council, the People’s Committee and the Fatherland Front held a Tet meeting afternoon of January 18.
On behalf of City Party leaders, Secretary Hai praised the revolutionary cadres, heroic Vietnamese mothers, invalids, veterans, intellectuals, religious leaders, officials and staff of the city for fulfilling the task of building the city and implementing the set tasks in 2011.
Under a program themed “Do not let any poor household miss out on Tet”, the City Party spent VND 836 billion to pay for special care of the underprivileged, disadvantaged children, the poor, war invalids and wounded soldiers, victims of Agent Orange and needy families, so that they could enjoy a happy Tet.
Reporting on the status of the tasks set for 2011, Comrade Hai stressed that
The City party leader also recognized the efforts of the people and authorities of the city to sustain an economic growth rate higher than the national average, by applying the party’s socio-economic policies.
Hai stressed that HCMC must play an important role in helping the country reach its socio-economic targets for 2012 by implementing the resolutions passed at the fourth plenum of the Party Central Committee.
He asked all members of the City Party to do their best to fulfill the tasks set for 2012, so as to achieve national industrialization and modernization.
On the same day, the City Party leader also visited the families who were relocated for construction of the East West highway route and the HCMC hi-tech zone. He ordered local authorities to assist the relocated people to quickly stabilize and settle into their new homes and new jobs.

On January 18, a delegation led by City Party Secretary Le Thanh Hai and Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, member of the CPV Central Committee and Deputy Secretary of the HCMC Party Committee, visited and offered Tet greetings to the managing board of Binh Dien market in Binh Tan District.

On January 18, Secretary Le Thanh Hai attended the year-end and Tet Lunar New Year party organised by Sai Gon Giai Phong (SGGP) newspaper. During his visit, the City Party Chief wished all reporters, editors and technicians a Happy New Year.
Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, member of the CPV Central Committee and Deputy Secretary of the HCMC Party Committee underlined the role and responsibility of Sai Gon Giai Phong in particular and the city press in general as reliable strategic information providers of the City Party and Government.
Comrade Ha commended SGGP on its performance of assigned political tasks and its efforts to renew content and reporting styles, in dealing with adverse impacts of market economy and international integration.
Welcoming the City Party leader, SGGP Editor-in-Chief, Tran The Tuyen said in context of an increasingly fierce ideological fight and harsh information competition, SGGP has exerted its utmost to increase coverage quality to perform the functions of keeping on track and being a reliable information centre, not only as a media link but also at the same time actively fighting hostile propaganda.
