The Golden Ball Awards 2012 gala celebrations will take place at the Military Stadium in Tan Binh District in Ho Chi Minh City at 7pm on May 7.
The awards ceremony will attract many viewers and the program will be broadcast live from 19.00 hours on VTV6, HTV sports and BTV channels.
The annual awards have been organized by Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper. The awards are recognized as national awards by the Vietnam Football Federation. This year, Vietnam Export and Import Bank (Eximbank) will once again be the main sponsor of the event.
The awards ceremony each year has an element of surprise for viewers because unlike other awards, no one can determine the winners until the last minute.
Dang Thi Kieu Trinh is however expected to be honored as the ‘Best Female Player of Southeast Asia’.
The Golden Ball Awards for male players are expected to go to Huynh Quoc Anh, Nguyen Minh Phuong, of SHB Da Nang team and Le Tan Tai, of Khanh Hoa team.
This year the Da Nang team has many chances to win awards because the team has many excellent foreign players such as Antonio Merlo Gaston. Particularly, Tran Phi Son, of Song Lam Nghe An team, who had impressive performances in the U.21, is expected to be awarded as ‘Best Young Male Player’.
Coach Le Huynh Duc, who has three times won a title, will be present at the awards ceremony. Along with Da Nang team and Song Lam Nghe An team, Ho Chi Minh City team have nominated players on the awards shortlist.
