The Department of Education and Training honored 196 outstanding students for the academic year 2011-2012 at a meeting in Ho Chi Minh City on July 19.

Le Hong Son, director of the Department of Education and Training in HCMC, said at the meeting that HCMC had more than 4,000 excellent students and valedictorians in all grades in the academic year 2011-2012.
Speaking at the meeting, Le Hoang Quan, chairman of the People’s Committee of HCMC, said he highly appreciated these students some of who had overcome difficult family situations to work hard and excel at their studies. He expected these students to develop into bright citizens of the country and be valuable assets to all humanity.
Most of the valedictorians present at the meeting said the secret to their success was a passion for the subject. Vuong Yen Nhi, a valedictorian in Literature in the ninth grade; Tran Hoang Bao Linh, winner of a Bronze Medal at the International Maths Contest in the 11th grade; and Huynh Ngoc Anh Thu, a valedictorian in History in the ninth grade, said that in addition to commitment to their subject, they had a great passion to learn.
The meeting was attended by Le Hoang Quan, chairman of the People’s Committee of HCMC and Hua Ngoc Thuan, deputy chairman of the People's Committee.
