The number of passengers is forecasted to surge by 15-20 percent, topping 25,000 people on September 2 alone, Mr. Hai said. Routes from HCMC to Phan Thiet, Vung Tau and Da Lat and vice versa will see most passengers.

In related news, the Saigon Railway Station has reopened the website www.vetau.com.vn after being maintained and upgraded, said the station deputy head Nguyen Van Thanh.

After booking online tickets, passengers can dial 08.38463528 for free home delivery if the distance between their homes and the station is not longer than seven kilometers. In case they come to the station to get their booked tickets, a discount of 5 percent will be offered.

The program will last until September 30.

Since August, the elderly, from 65 years old, will receive a 10 percent discount on the train ticket prices.
