After Binh Trieu 1 Bridge was closed for construction on June 14, the Ho Chi Minh City Transport Department adjusted the traffic flow over Binh Trieu 2 Bridge, which has led to more congestion on the Hanoi Highway.

The department had forbidden vehicles weighing over 3.5 tons and buses with more than 16 seats (except public buses) from going over the Binh Trieu 2 Bridge between 5am and 11pm everyday. However, the move has failed to ameliorate the severe traffic.

On June 17, the department continued to adjust flow over the bridge in an attempt to ease traffic jams in peak hours. Accordingly, four-wheel vehicles, travelling from Thu Duc to Binh Thanh District are forbidden to go over Binh Trieu 2 Bridge between 6am and 11am and have been provided an alternate route: Highway 13 –National Highway 1A – Hanoi Highway – Dien Bien Phu Street.

Those from Binh Thanh to Thu Duc District are not allowed to go over the bridge between 4pm and 8pm and must take the detour: Dien Bien Phu Street – Hanoi Highway – National Highway 1A – Highway 13.

And four-wheel vehicles (except public buses), which travel on Kha Van Can Street, will take Highway 13 – National Highway 1A – Hanoi Highway – Dien Bien Phu Street instead of turning left onto the Binh Trieu 2 Bridge between 6am and 11am.

However, adjusting the traffic flow has caused an increase of the number of vehicles on the Hanoi Highway, leading to serious gridlock.
