A 490-ton barge pulling another freight vessel, which was carrying 11 crane-trucks, became lodged under the Tan Thuan 1 Bridge in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 7 at 6am on February 1.

After leaving a port in the city’s District 4 for Rach Gia City in the Mekong Delta Province of Kien Giang, the top of the crane-trucks immediately struck the bridge and became wedged.
HCMC river authorities arrived on the scene and deflated the crane-trucks’ tires so that the barge could be pulled out from under the bridge. The work was completed in 20 minutes.
Mr. Tran Van Xinh, head of the Department of River Police of HCMC, said the incident did not damage the bridge; however, relevant departments will carry out further inspections and make a subsequent public announcement.
