At one time Nguyen Hong Son was the most skillful center midfielder in Viet Nam. He picked up many prestigious awards, including the “Viet Nam Gold Ball” in 1998 and again in 2000, “Best Football Player in the Tiger Cup 1998” and “Best Asian Football Player” for August 1998.
After saying goodbye to the football field, Hong Son didn’t go far. He moved to the sidelines to become the coach of The Cong Club, one of the U18 team’s, where he started his football playing career. After which he went on to manage a U11 team.
However, except for his closest friends, no one knows what he has done since. Fans of the skilled midfielder have grown curious of his whereabouts as more time has elapsed since his disappearance from the sport.
Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper sent out a top field reporter to locate the former football sensation.
After following the trail further away from the football field, Hong Son was finally located. And just where was Hong Son found? Not on a field, but rather on a court, a tennis court.
Looking for a fresh start, Hong Son has spent his time away from football honing his skills at a different kind of game.
At the present, Hong Son is working a few hours a day as a tennis coach for beginners. He said that he earns enough to make a living and spends the rest of his time playing tennis.
