The Vietnamese Sports Team won more than four gold medals in athletics, archery, cycling and swimming, returning the country to second position in the medals tally at the 27th SEA Games.
In the women’s athletics, athlete Pham Thi Binh grabbed the gold medal for Vietnam, scoring a victory in 2 hours 46 minutes.
This is the first gold medal won by the Vietnamese athletic team at the 27th SEA Games.
The silver medal went to Myanmar athlete Myint Aye who scored a victory in 2 hours 49 minutes.
Along with Pham Thi Binh, Vu Thi Huong was the second runner-up after Thai athlete in the last run in the women’s 400 meters.
In archery, athlete Nguyen Tien Cuong won a gold medal with 138 points in the final round. This is also the first gold medal for Vietnam in archery.
In rowing, two Vietnamese athletes Pham Thi Thao and Pham Thi Hai could not overcome Indonesian athletes, they only grabbed a silver medal in the women’s rowing event.
In swimming, two Vietnamese swimming athletes Anh Vien and Quy Phuoc grabbed two more gold medals for Vietnam in the women’s 400 meters mixed category and the men’s 200 meters freestyle.
In qualifying round of men’s 200m butterfly, two Vietnamese swimmers Phan Lam Yen and Phan Gia Man will attend in the final round. Athlete Tran Tam Nguyen also passed the qualifying round of the women’s 50 meters freestyle category.
It’s worth noting that four racers including Mai Nguyen Hung, Le Van Duan, Trinh Duc Tam and Nguyen Thanh Tam did excellently in the 100 kilometer cycling event although they lost ground in the first six kilometers.
Until now, Vietnam is at second position in the medals tally with 43 gold medals, 36 silver medals and 43 bronze medals after Thailand.
