The Ministry of Construction has officially updated the list of inland container depots (ICDs) in Vietnam, bringing the total number nationwide to 19, an increase of two compared to the list issued in March 2025.
The two newly added ICDs are Cai Mep ICD in Ho Chi Minh City and Phase 1 of the Tan Cang – Moc Bai ICD in Tay Ninh Province.
The additions are intended to meet growing logistics demands, improve cargo clearance capacity, and reduce pressure on seaport systems.
Cai Mep ICD is located in Cai Mep Industrial Park, Tan Phuoc Ward, Ho Chi Minh City and is developed by Cai Mep International Logistics Joint Stock Company. The project covers an area of 9.15 hectares and has an annual throughput capacity of approximately 133,000 TEUs.
This is the first ICD in the Cai Mep – Thi Vai area, capable of receiving cargo via both road and maritime routes. Designed as a multifunctional facility, the depot can handle a wide range of cargo types, including containers, bulk cargo and project cargo
The facility features a total berth length of 1,100 meters, including two berths for vessels of up to 25,000 DWT and 10 berths for barges of up to 5,000 DWT. This allows it to accommodate various types of vessels such as container ships, container barges, bulk carriers, and project cargo vessels, ensuring operational flexibility.
In addition, more than 30 modern pieces of equipment have been installed in a synchronized manner to enhance loading and unloading capacity while ensuring safety and operational efficiency.
According to Government Decree No. 38/2017, inland container depots are an integral part of the transport infrastructure system, serving as key logistics hubs that connect with seaports, airports, inland waterways, railways and border gates.
ICDs perform multiple functions, including receiving and dispatching containerized cargo; stuffing and stripping containers; consolidating containers for transport to seaports and other designated locations; conducting customs inspections and clearance procedures for import-export goods; consolidating and deconsolidating cargo; temporarily storing goods and containers; and repairing and maintaining containers.
